Sheffield Steelers say Yes! to new home: AUDIO INTERVIEW
STEVE Lewis, chief executive of London based Oak said the Yes! project would provide nearly 3m sq ft of leisure facilities.
Steelers would be one of their "major attractions" playing out of a purpose-built arena, available to the public skaters and ice sports participants.
"Ice hockey is perhaps not one of the best known sports in the UK but it is gaining in popularity and the whole ethos about Yes! is to have a leisure-based destination that is offering facilities that are currently not available in the UK.
"The idea is that this will be a safe secure environment that appeals to a huge range of people and to have someone of the calibre and the success of the Steelers is really something that we are very proud of.
"We have got a long road to go but we are aiming to have the first stage of the scheme up and running by the back end of 2010-early 2011."
Lewis said the whole Yes! concept would be a "leisure experience never seen before in the UK."
Free shuttle buses would be in place to take visitors from Supertram stops to the centre, he added.
