SHEFFIELD Steelers’ coach Ryan Finnerty admits he is an admirer of Cardiff Devils’ netminder Stevie Lyle - but falls short of endorsing the Welshman as an obvious successor to John DeCaro.
Finnerty played in front of Lyle, 32, during his days in Wales and has cropped up on the radar since DeCaro quit for Norway. “DeCaro was a good goalie and team-guy so it was a shame to see him go but we will be patient about finding a new goalie” said the team boss.
“Stevie is definitely an option. He is import quality. On his day he’s as good as anybody in the league. But we won’t be rushing into a decision.”
Lyle played a couple of matches for Sheffield in the 2004-5 season.
