Home form: could be better, away form, amazing. That’s how it goes for Sheffield Steelers, right now, so their big task is to start improving at the Arena.

The 6-0 win at Cardiff Devils was a jaw-dropper last Sunday, it’s just a pity the 2-1 win the night before at home to Coventry Blaze was comparably modest fare.

The players do understand their responsibilities: they haven’t been scoring and winning enough at Broughton Lane, where the fans pay their wages.

Import forward Michael Forney recognises it is important they do that in the League game against Dundee Stars on Saturday.

Forney also knows how important it is that Josh Unice, drafted into goal after injury to regular netminder Frank Doyle, continues to shore up the other end, as he did last weekend.

“That was a pretty impressive weekend for – to shut out the Devils is great for the start of their Steelers career” said Forney.

“On Sunday he was sensational. That rink in Cardiff is so hard to play in for a forward, let a lone a goalie. Shots just come at you from all angles and the Devils just shoot on sight. He coped with the rubber and wasn’t flustered all night.

“For the first part of the season Frank gave us all confidence in the way that he played. He would make saves and that would give us all a lift. That was exactly what happened on Sunday.

“I can see him getting better, he hasn’t had time to buy a bottle of milk yet, arrived Friday, played Saturday and Sunday. Now he can get into a routine and prepare for Dundee at the Arena. I can’t believe that they have taken three points off us this season to date. Mind you all those points were in Dundee, on Saturday we have to play with the same intensity that we did in Cardiff, win the game, put a show on for the fans and then get up to Edinburgh (Sunday) and do the same there.”
