Sheffield Steelers - who have been offered the services of 6ft 4ins blueliner Benn Olson - hope to make their first defensive signing of the close season within the next week.

Coach Gerad Adams has hired three forwards, but yet to fill either of the two defencemen slots. That could change, although Olson is an unlikely match for Steelers.

Club official David Simms, speaking on video at thestar.co.uk said he’d like to see a new recruit who would resemble the likes of Steve Mumm or Dion Darling. Simms also said it was time for play off-winner Drew Fata to move on. “Drew had two fabulous years with us, he was well paid and looked after and got an MBA” he said.

Simms also thought d-men Dustin Kohn and Gord Baldwin would be “better players” next year.
