Sporting Steelers goalie Tyler Plante has publicly applauded his back up Brad Day for leading the team to Challenge Cup victory in his absence.
Plante, who has been suffering with a niggling injury, was rested from Sheffield’s 4-1 win at Manchester on Wednesday.
Day had an outstanding night - and tht was recognised by Plane on twitter. He posted: “What a performance from @bradday321 he is no longer ‘Sideshow Brad’... He is ‘Bigshow Brad!’ Congrats on your first win! “
Coach Paul Thompson said: “Brad got us the win in Manchester and I am pleased Tyler showed he is a good team-mate by recognising that.
“When you play your back-up goalie teams shoot twice as much as they normally do but Brad surprised me by how calm he was. And he has shown an incredible improvement from August to now - and that is largely due to the mentoring job that Tyler has done on him.
“They train as a pair and work hard and you have to respect that and the progress Brad has made.”
Plante will be make in Steelers’ crease tomorrow when Sheffield go to Nottingham Panthers.
“Tyler will have made a full recovery by this weekend and we will need him at his best. “We won there last time (3-2, October 17) so they will be smarting.”
Panthers needed overtime to beat Edinburgh Capitals 4-3 on Wednesday. Sheffield trail Panthers five points in the League, but have two games in hand.
