Jonathan Phillips has kept his spot in the Sheffield Steelers’ squad next year - but his captaincy is open to question.
New coach Doug Christiansen said: “Whether he is next year’s captain still has to be determined.
“That’s certainly not a knock on him as a player or person, I normally let the team decide, that’s just the way I do things.”
Christiansen added that the winger can play “a lot of different roles.”
The coach added: He is an exceptional shut down winger who can play both left and right side. He is a great penalty killer as he has shown for both the Steelers and Great Britain. He fits perfectly into the system I play on the penalty kill.”
Phillips said “I’m delighted to have re-signed. I’m looking forward to an eighth season and hopefully a few after that as well.
“Having worked with Doug at National team level I’m excited about what he will bring to the Steelers.
“A new coach always has new ideas and wants his own players in the team, I was delighted he called me and wants me alongside him as we try and get back to winning championships again.”
