CHAD HUTTEL said it was no great shock when the door closed on his Sheffield Steelers’ career- but he enjoyed his single year with the club.

The 23-year-old American saw the writing on the wall when his place came under pressure towards the end of last season. Now the defenceman - who arrived at Sheffield straight from University hockey - has signed for the Texas Brahmas (Central Hockey League.)

Huttel said: “It was what I was expecting, I never wanted to rule out Sheffield but it just wasn’t going to work for either side at this point. I truly enjoyed my time in Sheffield. I’m glad I had the opportunity to play there.”

Huttel played before some big Sheffield Arena crowds - his new base, the NYTEX Centre is a modest 2,400 seater.
