Jason Hewitt was labelled a “warrior and a leader” today.
Sheffield Steelers assistant coach Marc Lefebvre complimented the forward for playing last weekend with a wrist injury and two broken toes.
“We expect all the players to be tough and play through pain but Hewey took it to a new level,” he said. “I think many would have said he shouldn’t have played but he never gave that a option a moment’s consideration. He’s a warrior and a leader.”
Lefebvre added: “Hewy is one of our go-to guys. He doesn’t need a letter on his jersey to lead this team.”
“You have to love and admire his ethic and commitment. He would come off after a shift in agony but hide it from us in case we sat him out, he wanted to be involved all the time and contribute.
“I think he remains one of the best penalty killers in the league and a great face off guy you can rely on at any time.”
Steelers have a weekend off. Coach Doug Christiansen has returned to America for a short family visit.
