Matt Keith had a five-point night to help Braehead Clan return to the top of the Elite League table thanks to an 8-2 victory over Fife Flyers.

Keith scored two goals and added three assists, while Neil Trimm also scored twice to send the Clan back on level points with Sheffield Steelers.

Both sides have 33 points, but Sheffield have a game in hand.

Zach Hervato scored the game-winning goal as Hull Stingrays sprang a surprise with a 3-2 triumph over Belfast Giants.

Craig Peacock put the Giants ahead on the powerplay at the 8:43 mark of the opening period but the Stingrays drew level through Carl Lauzon.

Powerplay strikes from Matthew Davies and Hervato put the Stingrays in charge and although Kevin Westgarth halvd the lead, Hull held on.

In the evening’s other game, Jade Portwood scored the game-winner 2:08 from the end of regulation to give Edinburgh Capitals a 3-2 win over Coventry Blaze, whom Sheffield play tonight.

FRIDAY REPORT:

Mathieu Roy added to his amazing goal tally with the opener for Sheffield Steelers against Cardiff Devils tonight. Sheffield Steelers 4-1 Cardiff Devils (Result)

The French Canadian squeezed the puck past Ben Bowns after his side had failed to conjured up any real chances before the sixth minute.

Devisl had more quality chances but couldn’t get the puck past Frank Doyle (pictured.)

The first period ended at 18;06 after Devils’ Andrew Hotton, who had been having a vocal feud with Gord Baldwin, was hit in face by the puck...delivered by Baldwin.

Steelers scored in a scramble in the Devils crease at 34;35, Tyler Mosienko getting the credit although Rob Dowd had the last touch.

Phil Hill’s delight was obvious when he scored against his old club to make it 3-0.

But Devils grabbed one back when Carl Hudson scored from the left flank.

Colton Fretter made it safe with an empty net goal at 4-1.

The win took Steelers two points clear of Braehead Clan at the top of the league.

The game, Steelers’ 600th EIHL league game, also saw the return of Dustin Kohn, after injury.

Second-string goalie Geoff Woolhouse was out again - the luckless Brit has injured his groin.

Tyson Mark was out suspended for the Welsh.
