Jody Lehman, one of the best goalies in Steelers’ history, believes Sheffield have made a significant signing in Canadian Russ Moyer.

Lehman (Steelers 2005-9) played behind Moyer at Danish team Aalborg in the 2009-10 campaign.

He says the 32-year-old blueliner was a consistently strong player who may have improved since their time together.

“Russ is a great guy, he just loves the game and being around it” says Lehman.

“He will fit in with the Steelers like he has been here for years.

“He is a very talented offensive player and an exceptional skater. It was early in his career when I played with him in Aalborg, so I would imagine he has sharpened his game in recent years, especially coming off a Championship year.” Moyer won promotion in Sweden for his team Karlskrona.

In 50 games, he scored three goals and seven assists and served 40 penalty minutes.

Meanwhile, Tony Hand is delighted to have signed former Steeler Mark Thomas, saying: “Mark has played at the top level of British hockey almost all his career, and is a fantastic player.

“To have him join us will lift us to a whole new level.”
