RYAN FINNERTY believes his successor at Sheffield Steelers must be found quickly or the club could lose the core of their players.
“I want them to do well next year and keep the players they need along with the new ones” he said.
“Existing guys will want to know who they will be playing for. They won’t commit until they know that.”
It’s not possible to say how many of the team will be offered contracts until a new man is installed.
While the likes of Steve Goertzen, James Jorgensen, Drew Fata and Danny Meyers have a contract for next year, there is a need, in Finnerty’s view, to tie down imports Tylor Michel, Simon Ferguson and Shawn Limpright.
The latter has issues though. Limpright tweeted: “Good league with good fans and great players ruined by awful officiating.” John DeCaro is leaving, so the new coach’s first priority may be to identify a new goaltender.
Steelers may fill the coaching post quickly - they haven’t been slow in making overtures to one particular candidate.
