If you can score 63 goals and 64 assists in three seasons in German, Italian and Austrian ice hockey leagues, it is a fair bet that you are going to be a major offensive threat in the UK’s Elite division.
Sheffield Steelers are still patting themselves on the back after signing Colton Fretter, earlier this week.
The 32-year-old Canadian collected 110 points in 185 American league games and then went on to be a leading tallyman at Iserlohn, Bolzano and Klagenfirter.
“I’m a shooter, I like to shoot the puck” he says.
“I’m not flashy, I don’t skate around guys too much. I get the puck and take it to the net. You aren’t going to score unless you shoot and I do a lot of that!
“I like to create offence. I will play however the coach wants me to but I’m guessing he will want me to be creative and offensive. I will do whatever it takes to win.”
Fretter is around the same height as former Steelers points-grabber Jeff Legue and will be expected to have a similar impact on the Play Off champions.
“I played for a short time with Dustin Kohn and Pascal Morency, it will be nice to have a couple of familiar faces when I first walk through the door in Sheffield. I’m expecting good things these next two seasons. Now I’ve signed I just want to get going and get to Sheffield to meet the team and start playing.”
