The arrival of two new defenceman at Steelers will almost certainly mean the end of the Sheffield careers of Gord Baldwin and Dustin Kohn.
Both players have had injury issues during their time at the club. And there is speculation that new coach Paul Thompson won’t want to take a gamble on either.
Thompson has drafted in 24-year-old Jace Coyle and 32-year-old Russ Moyer.
And while he doesn’t appear to have launched negotiations with Baldwin or Kohn, he has with other players on his re-recruitment wish-list, like Mike Forney and Tyler Mosienko.
Many believe Rod Sarich did enough last year to merit another season on the Arena blue line, so he too could called up over the Summer to get ready for the club’s pre-season camp, Champions League and the defence of the Elite League trophy.
Baldwin, 28, missed the last 13 games of the Steelers season. Kohn, also 28, fared worse: the had two bouts of injury and was absent for a seven game stretch and then a 17-match run, however he was fit for the key end to the campaign. In the past Nottingham Panthers have had an interest in the smooth-skating d-man.
