Cardiff Devils took a surprise 2-0 lead through Czech international Tomas Kurka and Matthew Myers against Sheffield Steelers last night - but they couldn’s sustain the advantage.
Led by the sheer speed and determination of fit-again Rob Dowd, Steelers got level at their Arena.
They dragged the first goal back through Gord Baldwin from the left point before irrepressible Dowd finished off a move he’d started himself.
Mac Faulkner, though, potted a rebound off Frank Doyle to give Devils a 3-2 lead at the first period break.
Sheffield hadn’t been hugely impressive but hadn’t really deserved to be behind either.
And it wasn’t a surprise when Jason Hewitt fired in off Jonathan Phillips for 3-3 at 28;14.
Sheffield finally took the lead for the first time when Drew Fata circled around the net and fired home at 30;18.
Doyle made a couple of decent saves in the final period and had a stroke of luck when Kurka hit the post, Sheffield holding on for both points.
