Tyler Mosienko scored a hat-trick to lead Sheffield Steelers to a hard-fought and highly satisfying win tonight.
The super-skilled, hard-working forward scored a hat-trick (6;07, 31;14 and 31;43) to edge Sheffield ahead of a game and resourceful Clan side.
Steelers had taken a 1-0 lead in at the first break.
But Scott Pitt equalised at the start of the middle session.
The Mosienko show then grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, the Canadian beating Kyle Jones twice in 29 seconds.
Jay Latulippe wrapped up the points with a late goal.
It is also worth recognising the amazing concentration and stubborn shot-stopping skills of Frank Doyle - who has been playing out of his skin, recently.
And with a new player likely to sign for Sheffield this week, things are looking pretty rosey at Broughton Lane.
Shffield Steelers 4-2 Belfast Giants
Second-placed Belfast Giants were beaten 4-2 by a triumphant Sheffield Steelers.
Mathieu Roy, Micheal Forney and Ben O’Connor scored, but it took an empty net goal from Tyler Mosienko to make the game safe with 11 seconds left.
Giants goals came from Craig Peacock and Ray Sawada in the middle period.
Meanwhile Chris Auger scored a hat-trick as the Fife Flyers stunned the Elite League leaders Braehead Clan 6-2 at Fife Ice Arena.
Kyle Haines also bagged two goals after Jamie Milam had opened the scoring for the hosts, with Braehead only able to respond through Scott Pitt - when they were already 4-0 down - and Ben Davies.
Fortunately for Braehead, their nearest two challengers in the standings both lost as well on Saturday night.
Nottingham Panthers in third were downed 3-2 by the Cardiff Devils after a shoot out - both high-flyers suffering second successive defeats.
In Saturday’s other game, the Edinburgh Capitals won their bottom-of-the-table clash with the Dundee Stars 3-2 thanks to a brace from Daniel Naslund.
