Sheffield Steeler Finnerty lashes Voth

STEELERS' players believe Cardiff Devils bad boy Brad Voth should be suspended for at least 10 games after a charging incident they describe as a deliberate attempt to injure a fellow professional.

Ryan Finnerty, who has played on the same side as Voth in the past, accused him of attempting to badly hurt Sheffield team-mate Randy Dagenais.

Devils were losing 2-0 with 35 seconds left on Sunday night when Voth charged at Dagenais.

Finnerty said: "Voth ran Randy on the boards with his elbows up high, at 100mph...if Randy hadn't moved out of the way in that split second he'd probably still be in hospital now.

"It would have been really ugly if he hadn't have heard a 'heads-up' warning from Roddy (Sarich.) It would have been same as being hit by a truck on the street.

"The hit was so hard that it almost shook the gross little tent that Cardiff play in.

"It was a deliberate attempt to injure by a player that has done it before. Absolutely classless" said Finnerty.

"The league has to step in now, does it take somebody to be seriously hurt for them to do something?

"Voth is 6ft 7ins and a good tough player, but I've never seen him square up to another tough guy in my life."

Finnerty said the Elite League would gain a reputation like the Quebec Senior League if they allowed Voth to get away without a significant ban."

Finnerty said that Voth also gouged Dagenais' eye in a brawl which followed the incident on Sunday.

"There wasn't a video made available to us after the game which reminded me of semi-pro hockey. But somebody ought to do something about Voth."
