SHEFFIELD Steeldogs have got to find a rapid remedy to a damaging new habit of starting slowly in games.
Andre Payette’s men went behind 3-0 in both last weekend’s games.
They fought back to beat Swindon Wildcats 5-4 in Overtime at iceSheffield on Sunday, but lost 5-2 at Slough Jets 24 hours earlier.
Saturday’s defeat was not what Payette had in mind.
After shipping in three goals in the first 23 minutes, they regrouped, though, to pull one back in the second period by Greg Wood at 34:00 on the powerplay.
Swindon then scored a couple more before Pavel Gomeniuk scored something of a fluke goal from his own defensive zone.
On Sunday, Steeldogs managed to get both points out of the visiting Wildcats, despite the early problems.
Steeldogs’ fight back began in the second period as captain Wood scored on the PP at 26:26 followed by Gomeniuk at 33:19 for a 3-2 scoreline. Steeldogs revival was then interrupted as Swindon restored the two goal lead when Ben Morgan sat out a two minute minor for tripping.
Steeldogs went back on the rampage though and tied the game with goals at 35:50 by Edgars Bebris and 39:57 from Ben Morgan. In an entertaining third period, Steeldogs dominated possession but could not find another regulation goal.
Wood bagged the winner 37 seconds into overtime.
