SHEFFIELD Steeldogs showed what their team is capable of with a 4-3 shoot-out win over second-placed Basingstoke Bison.
Andre Payette’s team had slipped up 3-5 to Swindon Wildcats the night before at the same iceSheffield venue so a win for the next-to-bottom club was a much needed tonic.
Payette commented: “The guys showed the most heart and determination they have all year and the team battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win. It is great to see Sheffield players coming into their own, Andrew Hirst is quickly becoming one of our best players and it was a tremendous game by Lee Haywood. Also another fantastic performance by Lubomir Korhon, who is becoming one of the best imports in the league.”
Greg Wood had put Dogs ahead, before they conceded three. Wood got a second before Haywood equalised at 57;17.
Wood and Pavel Gomeniuk scored the decisive penalties.
