Sheffield Steeldogs held on to sixth place in the EPL after tough back-to-back games with Milton Keynes.
While they were beaten 7-2 away on Saturday, they defeated Lightning 2-1 at iceSheffield on Sunday.
Ex Panther Blaz Emersic scored a power play goal 4.52 in to a penalty strewn first session. Lubomir Korhon was out of touch in his third game back from injury and even the magic of Janis Ozolins was in short supply.
Referee Tom Pering appeared intent on steering the result as his calls twice gave MK five minute power plays - including a Match penalty to Greg Wood for tripping.
Steeldogs defence stood strong and it was Ozolins who finally beat Stephen Wall with the clock running down to send the game in to overtime. Sheffield’s momentum carried in to the extra five minutes with a shot from the boards from defenceman Lee Haywood winning the game.
MK’s Milan Kostourek took a swing at the celebrating players which led to both benches clearing.
Looking ahead to next weekend’s visits from Guildford and Manchester,
Wood said: “We won both our last games against them. We’ve proved that we can get a result against anyone, it’s about taking a game at a time and sticking to our game plan”.
