NEW Sheffield Steelers signings Simon Ferguson and Chris Frank were in the line-up tonight at iceSheffield - yet they lost to basement club Edinburgh.

Both were making their British debut against Capitals.

The match was delayed 15 minutes because of the volume of traffic trying to access the car parks.

And the game was only two minutes old when Tylor Michel was ejected for checking to the head.

Tylor remonstrated - he said it was a fair hit. But his night was over.

Steelers fired a huge amount of shots, all without success, in a dominating first period.

How Simon Ferguson, Ashley Tait and Shawn Limpright, in particular, didn’t score, will forever remain a mystery.

Steve Goertzen missed a decent chance in the second session, too.

Astonishingly, Caps took a power play lead at 25;19, Curtis Leinweber scoring from close in.

Steelers needed a goal before the second interval and got it from Matt Stephenson on the power play at 39;40..

Edinburgh’s crease was then under almost constant seige.

Yet at 53;56 they stunned the home side with a second, from Willie Nicolson.

For the Scots, it was reward for mangnificent defending.

For Steelers, an opportunity wasted for league points against the bottom side.

Saturday’s EIHL Results: Cardiff 2-3 Nottingham (APS); Fife 4-1 Belfast; Sheffield 1-2 Edinburgh.

Full weekend wrap up in Monday’s Star.
