SHEFFIELD Steeldogs are hoping to move on from a topsy turvy weekend which saw them lose at home to arch rivals Manchester Phoenix.
Andre Payette’s men slipped up 3-2 at iceSheffield and then played “diabolical” hockey for 20 minutes at Telford Tigers on Sunday, before taking the points in a 7-5 victory.
The player-coach said: “We were very disappointed with the result on Saturday against Phoenix, as although we worked hard in the third period we failed to get the win. However we meet them again on Thursday in Manchester and I hope we will bounce back in that game.
“On Sunday we were diabolical in the first period but then in the second and third, I felt we played the best we have all year. It was really important to get the Cup points in that game.”
Dogs were 3-0 down in 10 minutes at Telford but stirred on by Payette’s motivational powers and Latvian playmaker Janis Ozolins’s skills, they romped to a win. Ozolin was awarded man of the match for a hat-trick, which included the game-winner.
