Phillips fancies Bolibruck as man to replace Munn

STEELERS' skipper Jonathan Phillips believes Kevin Bolibruck would be the perfect replacement for Steve Munn at the heart of the Sheffield defence.

The double-winning champions are resigned to losing their ex-AHL defenceman.

But, Bolibruck, speculated to be available after a season at Ponteba in Italy ticks all the right boxes, according to Phillips.

"I played against him for Cardiff Devils the year Sheffield won the double and it was obvious he was one of the top players in the League at that time.

"He's played at a high level and can do a lot of things well. He's not fancy, just steady all round.

"He would be a great signing to replace Munner."

Bolibruck, 32, played for Sheffield in 2003-04 and there remains an affection among fans who recall the stability to the blue line.

Phillips, meanwhile, says he would be sad to see another Canadian, Ryan Finnerty, leave, as now seems likely.

Finnerty admits "it's not looking good" in terms of a new contract and the club have done little to dispel that suggestion.

"Ryan causes opponents serious problems" said Phillips.

"How big the game is mirrors how big a performance he puts in. He can score, create goals or turnover, and knows how to win - nobody would want to lose those ingredients."
