Sheffield Steelers captain Jonathan Phillips has suffered an identical injury to the one which kept him out for 14 weeks last season.
The Welsh wing was caught on the left knee, the same joint that was operated on, by Dundee d-man Chris Zarb on Saturday and a scan this week could confirm more damage to the same cruciate ligament.
Phillips said: “I can’t tell you how frustrating it is as I’d got my speed and power back. The surgeon said it is just my bad luck that it has happened again on the same knee. It is the same sensation as I had before. It is not the pain, it’s a feeling of instability that’s worrying.” The club could get a temporary replacement.
