Sheffield Steeldogs dropped to second place in the English Premier League - paying the price for four lacklustre periods.

Andre Payette’s side were shut out 3-0 at Guildford Flames on Saturday and went behind in the first session of Sunday’s iceSheffield game against Basingstoke Bison.

But goals from Janis Ozolins, Ben Morgan and Greg Wood gave Dogs a 4-2 home win to protect their 100 per cent record there.

Ben Bowns was awarded MOM for another solid performance in goal.

Dogs are just a point behind leaders Manchester Phoenix in the EPL standings.

Coach Payette. said: “I am really pleased at the way the lads bounced back after the tough defeat in Guildford, as I am at keeping our undefeated home ice record intact.

“Against Bison,a lot of the guys stepped up to the plate, Bowns was exceptional and Ozolins was our offensive spark. A really good performance to end the weekend to keep our EPL position high, second in the league and just a point behind Manchester.”

The Bison game was certainly robust - a big hit on the plexi caused a delay as the shattered remains were cleared away and boarding put up in place.

Steeldogs are away next weekend, (Slough Jets and Bracknell Bees) returning to iceSheffield on October 22 against Telford Tigers.
