ANDRE Payette has confirmed he will be player coach of Sheffield Steeldogs next season.

A Presentation Evening at the Hilton Hotel celebrated the completion of a first successful year as Steeldogs under new ownership and confirmed Shane Smith’s commitment to taking the team forward next year, along with Payette’s continuing role.

Speedy forward Janis Ozolins picked up the Most Valuable Player award. Lloyd Gibson was the Coach’s Player and Ben Bowns was voted Players’ Player. Kriss Grundmanis received the Most Improved Player award with Adam Radmall being the Unsung Hero of the team.

The Steeldogs next home game is tomorrow (7.30pm) against Milton Keynes at iceSheffield. Children are admitted free. This is the penultimate home game of the regular season and the Steeldogs will be wanting some revenge for the recent loss at MK.

Payette will also be aiming to move towards their guaranteed play-off weekend with the team in positive mode, despite still missing some injured players. The will also see ice hockey’s Brittle brothers battling on opposite sides.
