SHEFFIELD Steeldogs coach Andre Payette said his team needs to find its energy for tomorrow night’s cup final against Guildford Flames.
Steeldogs gained three valuable points in a back-to-back weekend against potential play-off opponents, Basingstoke Bison, with a convincing 6-2 away win on Saturday before a disappointing shoot-out loss at home on Sunday.
Payette said: “Saturday was one of our best games of the season, everyone contributed and the the guys played with a lot of passion.
“We totally dominated them with a really good result and I am very proud of the great effort by all.
“On Sunday I thought we looked a tired team and we didn’t capitalise on our chances, especially the 3-4 breakaways and then we couldn’t score on our penalty shots.
“It was disappointing to drop a point but at least we got three out of four over the weekend.
“We now need to get our energy back for Wednesday and do our best in the Cup Final against Guildford Flames.”
Steeldogs now have to revitalise themselves before another long mid-week journey south to Guildford for the second leg of the cup final tomorrow (8.00pm). Payette’s team have to make up a three goal deficit to get back on level terms with the Flames following the 3-6 (on aggregate) scoreline at iceSheffield.
It looks like a tough task but it gives Steeldogs a chance at a first piece of silverware.
