Steeldogs have re-signed long-serving player Stuart Brittle, the Telford-born workhorse who gained his doctorate at Sheffield University whilst playing EPL hockey in Sheffield.
Brittle is known for giving 100% every shift as well as being a play-maker and racking up the points.
He gained the top assists award in the Dogs’ last end of season presentations, with 34 assists in 53 games.
Coach Andre Payette was delighted to gain his signature for his campaign next season, saying: “Stuart is one of the most under-rated British players in the EPL.
“He is a tremendous passer of the puck, he sees the ice well, gives his honest effort every time he steps out on the ice and provides a lot of leadership in the dressing room’.
Brittle said: “The team looks great from the signings we have made, especially from defensive point of view and I hope the predominantly Sheffield-trained team of home-grown talent will attract more fans, it is something Sheffield can be proud of.”
Also signing for the Steeldogs is Ashley Calvert, a young Sheffield-trained player who stepped up to the EPL in 2008-9 with Telford Tigers before moving on to Bracknell Bees. Calvert’s main target was to return to Sheffield this year and Andre said: “It is great that another Sheffield player wants to return to play for his home team, he has plenty of talent.”
Payette will be on the ice coaching youngsters at his July hockey school on July 26-29 at iceSheffield.
