No holiday blues as Steelers gear up for Devils

REFRESHED from an impromptu holiday jaunt, Sheffield Steelers go back to work tomorrow night.

Coach Dave Matsos gave his side three days off earlier this week, allowing the players to get away from it all.

Players like Brett Clouthier and Ben Gustavson headed off to Italy, while Mark Thomas, Warren Tait and Jonathan Phillips checked into Centre Parcs.

And player/assistant coach Scott Ricci says the benefits have already been noticeable.

"At first I wondered whether three days away would be too long," he said.

"But when the guys got back to practice on Thursday, there was an extra bounce in them, injuries had cleared up and there was a lot of pace and aggression in training.

"It has freshened everybody up and we will be ready to go when Cardiff arrive tomorrow."

Ricci, returning from long term injury, will not play until next weekend, and it is unlikely that Regan Darby will play.

Meanwhile Jason Hewitt is revelling in his role as third-line winger and penalty-killer. "The coach says he wants to have a corps of players he can build around for a couple of years to come - and I would like to be one of those," he said.
