SHEFFIELD Steelers are set to sign three new Canadian players - one of them a first-choice goaltender.
The Star understands a deal has been reached with the netminder, who has previous experience in the Elite League.
That will be a relief for Ryan Finnerty, the club’s new player coach, who was unable to hold on to last season’s stellar goal-guardian Ervins Mustukovs. He has also agreed terms with All Star defenceman from the Canadian Interuniversity Sport League - whose availability was first revealed by The Star on May 18.
Finnerty’s most exciting signing - from a fans’ perspective - is a power winger with all the attributes they would want to see from a player in such a position- namely goal scoring, work ethic and fighting skills.
While new imports are on the way, there is little movement on some of last year’s import flock.
The return of super skaters Jeff Legue and Rod Sarich is a priority for the Elite League champions, although neither has yet committed to a fresh term.
