Steelers coach Ryan Finnerty has confirmed his first import signing with the capture of young American defenceman Chad Huttel.
Huttel, aged 22, has spent the last four years with the University of Minnesota-Duluth, last season as captain, helping his side win the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Championship. He studied Exercise Science at Minnesota.
“I’m delighted with our first signing.” said Finnerty. “Chad is a big strong kid who is hungry to win. He won last year, liked the taste of it and wants to do it again next season.
“I like the fact he has won before. He’s a captain, a leader and comes very well recommended. I don’t see him scoring 20 goals; he’s a rock-solid stay-at-home defenceman.”
It will be Huttel’s first year as a professional. He said: “I’m excited to be joining the Steelers and to be playing pro. It’s a great opportunity and one I intend to take. Steelers have a history of winning and that’s important to me.”
