Life about to become harder now whizz-kid Rob is known danger

ROB Dowd will face a tougher examination of his blossoming talents next season, his Steelers team captain believes.

Dowd's first full season in the Elite League level was an outstanding success last term.

But opponents will know the 21-year-old forward's style and strengths now - and be ready for him.

Sheffield skipper Jonathan Phillips says: "This is going to be a real test for Dowdy. There was no real pressure on him last season, but now people will be on him while we will be relying on him for goals and assists.

"Rival teams will certainly be keeping an eye on him and, although he is a relaxed kid, he knows he will have to continue to improve and develop."

Phillips says maturity and experience will make Dowd a better player.

"He's still got a lot to learn, defensively, and perhaps learning when not to hold on to the puck and when to release it.

"Sometimes he tries to beat one man too many. But when he is pulled to one side to be told things, he listens and acts on it - he is no prima donna.

"Everybody needs a little cockiness and arrogance - Dowdy has got a nice mix of that and the willingness to listen and learn."
