Latvian braced for Steeldogs bow
Ice Hockey: Latest news, reports and more.
SHEFFIELD Steeldogs look forward to returning to iceSheffield for Sunday’s match against Swindon Wildcats (5.30pm) after five away games.
Steeldogs, who also play at Swindon tomorrow, will give a home debut to Latvian forward Raivis Kurnigins, who has been playing in his nation’s top league.
Coach Andre Payette will be hoping the new signing will add an offensive zip to the Dogs, which will be needed to counter Wildcats high-scoring forwards. Payette hopes now to be able to run at full strength for the rest of the season and believes Raivis will prove as great a find as Janis Ozolins has been.
A spokesman for the EPL club said: “With a busy schedule over the next three weeks, this signing has come at just the right time and the current series of games will prove a baptism of fire for Raivis playing for the first time away from Latvia.
“Swindon games are high tempo and feisty.”
