SHEFFIELD Steelers have been crowned ice hockey’s Elite League champions after they secured a 7-2 over Braehead Clan.
The Steelers finished level on 87 points with Cardiff Devils, who thrashed bottom club Edinburgh Capitals 9-2, but pipped the Welsh side for the title because they have won more matches in regulation time.
They won 40 of their 54 league matches - in regulation this term - compared to the Devils’ 37.
Belfast Giants finished a point behind both sides after they thrashed Coventry Blaze 7-2.
On a night of one-sided results Dundee Stars over-ran Newcastle Vipers 6-2 while Hull Stingrays were 6-1 winners at home to Nottingham Panthers.
