Sheffield Steelers were shut out by a Cardiff Devils onslaught tonight.
Brent Walton, Joey Martin and Jake Morissette all piled in goals in the first 10 minutes.
The Welsh had two more disallowed as Steelers showed a defensive weakness they thought they’d rid themselves of.
A scoreless middle period meant a goal had to come quick for Sheffield; but sadly it went to Devils, with Martin getting his second.
Not a great night for a team that has steadily risen up the league table in January.
And it leaves coach Gerad Adams with work to do at both ends of the ice before his side play Edinburgh on Wednesday.

Sheffield Steelers 4-2 Nottingham Panthers (final)
Sheffield Steelers moved into second place in the League after a come-from-behind victory over Nottingham Panthers last night. The home side, without goaltender Frank Doyle, winger Luke Ferrara and Dustin Kohn, just about did enough to take over a first period advantage over a Notts side which had big holes in their line up, too.
Greg Jacina back-handed Panthers into the lead, but Jeff Legue converted from close range to tie the game at 1-1.
Steelers went ahead on the Power Play through Mathieu Roy.
The second period saw Nottingham dominate for fairly long periods.
They equalised through Charles Landry and while they went behind again when Michael Forney scored a fine wrist shot, they had a lot of puck possession.
It set up a nerve-jangling third period.
Sheffield had the best of the final session though and Roy’s second of the night, an empty netter, wrapped up the two points for Gerad Adams’ team.
* Leigh Salters scored the only goal of the game as Braehead Clan stretched their advantage at the top of the Elite League standings to three points with a 1-0 win over Belfast Giants.
Salters cashed in just four seconds into Robby Sandrock’s delay of game penalty and with Kyle Jones turning away all 36 shots he faced for the shutout, the Scottish side held on to claim both points.
Vladimir Nikiforov and Cale Tanaka scored to give Coventry Blaze a 2-1 victory over Dundee Stars, while a hat-trick for Rene Jarolin enabled Edinburgh Capitals to gain revenge for a 9-3 defeat to Fife Flyers last month with a 5-2 win.
*Steelers introduced unbeaten Sheffield middleweight boxer Adam Etches to the crowd before Saturday’s Steelers v Panthers face off.
He was acclaimed as a potnetial world champion in the making.
He fights at the Arena on March 28, on Kell Brook’s undercard.
