Sheffield Steelers edged a 17-goal thriller in Scotland last night.
While coach Paul Thompson's hopes of a tight defensive display went out the window, at least Sheffield got maximum points.
Jeff Legue notched one goal and three assists to play a significant part in the win, and Levi Nelson grabbed himself a brace, but short-contract goalie Marek Pinc was replaced after conceding eight.
Legue scored the first goal before two minutes had been counted and Sheffield led 3-1 before the Scots hit back and took the first period 4-3.
The middle session was a 2-2 draw, but Sheffield left the best to last scoring three unanswered goals in six minutes.
Brad Day shut the door in overtime.
It went to penalty shots and Steelers executed the best.
While fourth-place Sheffield cannot be happy that side shipped in eight goals, they will be delighted with the win.
*Belfast Giants saw their three-point lead at the top of the Elite League cut to a single one after they suffered a 6-3 defeat to Cardiff Devils on Saturday.
The Giants, who claimed a victory over Edinburgh on Thursday night to extend their lead at the top, suffered two days later as Joey Martin and Tomas Kurka netted a brace each for the Devils as Andrew Hotham and Joey Haddad completed the scoring.
Mike Wilson and a brace from Mike Radja was not enough for the visitors at the Cardiff Arena as the hosts along with Nottingham sit hot on their heels a point further back after the Panthers defeated Coventry Blaze.
Paul Swindlehurst was on target in the second and third quarters, while Andy Bohmbach and David Clarke scored one apiece in Nottingham's comfortable 4-0 win over the basement boys.
Dundee Stars claimed a narrow 3-2 overtime victory over Edinburgh Capitals and Manchester Storm saw off Fife Flyers 3-1.
