Sheffield Steelers shut out Braehead Clan in a close-fought duel in Scotland tonight.
The first period saw chances at either end, but neither side could break the deadlock.
Steelers, with injured Jason Hewitt sat in the stands, handed a debut to Canadian winger Danny Bois, who was injured in a brief and one-sided scrap with Zack Fitzgerald.
And after some deft goaltending from Frank Doyle (pictured,) they went ahead in the second period, top scorer Mathieu Roy profiting from a rebound.
Clan’s hopes of getting back into it, in front of their own fans, wasn’t helped by a Colton Fretter tip-in to double the visitors’ lead.
Defensively, Steelers were exceptional and had an answer for most things that were thrown at them.
The win sees Steelers sit proudly at the top of the table.
*Elite League statisticans have named Steelers centre Tyler Mosienko as Player of the Week: “We salute a player who was involved in a couple of big games for his team and came up big in both. Scoring 1+0 in the 4-2 win over Belfast and adding a hat trick in the 4-1 success over Braehead (last Sunday) can we ask Tyler Mosienko of the Sheffield Steelers to skate for and accept his applause.”
