Ice Hockey: Steelers owner Phillips faces new High Court writ

LAWYERS seeking money for creditors of a crashed Steelers' company have issued a new High Court writ against club owner Bob Phillips.

They are considering using bailiffs to seize assets and may also try to make him bankrupt.

Phillips was forced to pay 55,000 recently after the liquidator took court proceedings over the 2005 collapse of South Yorkshire Ice Hockey Franchise.

But around 150,000 remains unpaid.

Creditor David Sutton at Chartered Accountants Sutton McGrath Ltd, said: "Phillips had still not fully satisfied the judgement obtained against him personally. The Courts held he was personally liable for these debts as a result of his actions running the company.

"The liquidator is considering how to recover the money. If payment is not forthcoming in the very near future possible courses of action includes asset seizure. If the liquidator is still unable to recover the debt it is likely they will petition for his bankruptcy."

In legal jargon, the lawyers have issed a "writ of Fi-fa seeking execution over chattels."

That is a writ of execution issued in the High Court after judgement obtained in action of debt. It is addressed to the sheriff or High Court enforcement officer, and commands him to make good the amount out of the goods of the person against whom judgment has been obtained.

A second Steelers' management company, Yorkshire Sport, went bust earlier this Summer, leaving another set of creditors in its wake.
