DONCASTER’S principal National Hunt meeting, Sky Bet Chase Day on Saturday, features the most valuable race of the jumping season on Town Moor - The Sky Bet Chase – which offers prize money of £75,000.

The race is complemented by a trio of Grade 2 races along with a valuable handicap chase taking the amount of prize money on offer during the day to £207,000.

The Sky Bet Chase is a Handicap and Listed race over three miles and was first held at Doncaster in 1948 as The Great Yorkshire Chase.

A quality turnout is expected for Saturday’s renewal, including potential Cheltenham Festival and Grand National contenders. Possible runners are Hold On Julio, a winner twice this season at Sandown Park for Barbury Castle trainer, Alan King and Shakalakaboomboom, successful at Cheltenham last month for Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson, and a winner at last May’s Punchestown Festival in Ireland.

The seven-race meeting gets under way at 1.10pm. A shuttle bus will run from the railway station.

Tickets go on sale for the four-day Ladbrokes St Leger Festival in September on Monday, February 6. Visit www. doncaster-racecourse.co.uk or cal 01302 304200.
