Top award for course

Doncaster Racecourse is buzzing as we prepare for our first National Hunt fixture of the new campaign on Friday, having been crowned Racecourse Association Showcase Awards champions last week.

The prestigious national honour was awarded at a gala dinner at Epsom and the award celebrates the overall excellence and innovation that is being shown at the racecourse in improving customer experience.

In addition to going up against the cream of the UK racing industry and coming out on top with the overall award, Doncaster also won another individual gong for best Free Raceday, which was given for our epic Royal Wedding event.

Of course after that heady night the team’s feet were firmly back on the ground again as this week kicked off with all the preparation that is required before a major race day.

And Friday, which is a new fixture for Doncaster, is going to be a special occasion as our first ever Countryside Race Day kicks off our National Hunt campaign in style.

The Countryside Alliance has organised the day and will be putting on a special Race for Repeal at 11.30am, before the main card, with huntsmen and women competing in order to raise money for the Race for Repeal fund.

There will also be a parade of horses and hounds from the local Badsworth & Bramham Moor Hunt during the afternoon adding a real rural flavour to the day and hunts from Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland will all be represented on the day.

The first race on the main card gets underway at 12.50pm and the final race gets of at 3.40pm.

We’ve got some very strong entries across the card, with around 150 horses on the slate at the time of writing, along with some big name entries from the likes of Nicky Henderson and Jonjo O’Neil.

It’s great to see that the new national hunt season has got off with a bang and we’re in for a day of high excitement and top quality action here at Doncaster on Friday.
