SHEFFIELD’S world champion heptathlete, Jessica Ennis, has become one of the owners of the racehorse that shares her name.
The two-year-old filly is owned by Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and is in training with Michael Bell. She was purchased by John Warren on behalf of the syndicate for 82,000 guineas and is due to make her debut at Newmarket on Saturday.
“I was thrilled when I was invited to become a part-owner of a horse named after me - what an honour!” said Ennis. “My fiancé and I love horse racing.
“But we are complete novices when it comes to knowing what to look for, so it has been great to link up with Highclere, who are hugely experienced.
“I have yet to meet my namesake but have seen photos. I wish her and her jockey the best of luck in her maiden race - this is all very exciting!”
Harry Herbert, Highclere’s racing manager, added: “We are thrilled about Jessica’s involvement and only hope the filly lives up to her namesake. She certainly looks the part.”
