Welsh Inlet should be respected in the Mix Business With Pleasure Handicap at Kempton.

John Bridger’s mare is not as good on the all-weather as she is on the turf, but a humble race like this sits cosily upon her radar.

The seven-year-old made an unimpressive return from a break over Kempton’s seven furlongs in January, but green shoots of recovery were evident back in Sunbury in February.

Stepped back up to a mile, Welsh Inlet stayed on purposefully late in the day to finish third, beaten two lengths by Skidby Mill.

The daughter of Kheleyf might even have got a bit closer had she been a little more prominent to what was admittedly a stop-start pace - something which also did her no favours.

Bridger will nonetheless be satisfied the assessor has left her alone off a mark of 49, which is some 8lb lower than when she won at this course in January 2013.

And though she has not yet struck over a mile, her last performance at that trip suggests that statistic could soon be scratched from the archives.

Quality Art’s consistency can again come to the fore in the Unibet Offer Daily Jockey/Trainer Specials Handicap at Lingfield.

The seven-year-old gelding has won two of his last four, having been placed in most of his other races this winter.

He was also unfortunate over this course and distance not so long ago when touched off by a neck.

Simon Hodgson’s son of Elusive Quality is clearly a big danger at this sort of level and must surely be competitive on a mark of 58 in what is, frankly, a pretty awful encounter.

It will be interesting to see how Midnight Chorister gets on at Catterick.

Alex Hales’ seven-year-old responded manfully from a subdued run at Ludlow in mid-January in a novice handicap chase at Leicester, he travelled zestfully for a good portion of the two-mile journey before he was overtaken late on.

This looks a good race for him, having been left alone off a competitive-looking mark of 105.
