Kitten’s Red finally shed his maiden tag at the fifth attempt and can build on that confidence boost in the 32Red On The App Store Handicap at Kempton.

The three-year-old had shown little in four starts for Ed Dunlop, including when well beaten on his handicap bow over just short of a mile and a half at Windsor back in April.

However, switched to a classified race on his second outing of the campaign, Kitten’s Red made the most of what was possibly a marginally easier opportunity to open his account, being well backed in the process.

Fast ground and 10 furlongs certainly appeared to play to his strengths as he repelled the challenge of Ivors Involvement to win by a head after proving game under pressure.

Dunlop has clearly decided this all-weather event is the best of a handful of opportunities this week.

Wordcraft boasts an excellent pedigree as a daughter of Shamardal out of Golden Slipper winner Forensics and she got off to a perfect start when winning at Newmarket last month.

Making her racecourse bow as a three-year-old, she impressed with a one-and-a-half-length win at Headquarters, looking far better than your average maiden winner.

Charlie Appleby has not made any fancy entries for this filly yet but she appeals as one who could climb the ladder in due course.

Fast Enough hails from the family of the admirable Allied Powers and is another Godolphin runner worth monitoring in the 32Red/British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Approching Squall can put the lessons of his debut run to good use in the Monklands Maiden Stakes at Hamilton.

He was not a cheap recruit at 150,000 euros but he showed enough promise at Wolverhampton to suggest a win will follow in due course.

Slowly away, it took a while for the penny to drop but he ran on at the end of an extended mile and should surely improve for that.
