Sam Spade appeared to be turning into something of a Southwell specialist earlier in the year and he is worth supporting as he returns to the track in the Ladbrokes Handicap.
The four-year-old was trained by Richard Hannon snr until August 2013, with just one win in eight starts prompting connections to move on the son of Clodovil.
Derek Shaw’s decision to fork out £6,000 has certainly been repaid, as after a fairly inauspicious start Sam Spade began to find his stride on the Fibresand back in the spring.
He ran out a convincing winner of a fairly moderate heat and duly followed up that month back at the track, although he also threw in a very average performance at the venue in between.
Turf did not really appear to suit at Nottingham in May but he again impressed with his resolute attitude when returned to Southwell.
