James Tate journeys north with quite an unexposed improver in Scottish Strand for the Scottish Trophy Handicap at Hamilton.

The gelded three-year-old will be popular purely on his name alone - but there are also sound reasons in the form book to get involved.

He was backed strongly before turning over the odds-on Zora Seas at Ffos Las, the pair finishing miles clear and the second having come out to win again.

Still looking green there, as befits a horse on just his second start, he stayed on strongly for Kieren Fallon, shaping as though this extra furlong and a bit will be well within his compass.

Sketch Map went close over course and distance last week and should again be thereabouts in the Avia Signs Handicap.

Dropped markedly in trip, that was the best run for some time from Jedd O’Keefe’s three-year-old, who clearly has a race in him off his current rating.

The fact Irish trainer Pat Shanahan has secured the services of Richard Hughes for Prince Jock in the Jubilee Park Handicap at Ffos Las speaks for itself.

The gelding has been successful on a prior British raid, winning at Hamilton off a mark of 76 in July last year.

One run at Gowran followed and then he was off for over a year, recently returning at Gowran with what was a promising third.

He is now just 1lb higher than that victorious effort in Scotland and a big run is seemingly expected.

Shanahan and Hughes also team up with Split The Atom in the PT Civil Engineering Maiden Stakes.

The youngster has run well without getting his head in front but was unlucky to bump into smart-looking newcomer Hernandoshideaway at Hamilton.

As Bold is well-related there is a danger another debutant might scupper the Shanahan runner, but he will have to know his job first time up.
