Racing preview for Tuesday, june 21

Peterhouse appears to have a particular affinity for Beverley so it would be dangerous to ignore him in the Jamie Gordon The Big 40 Handicap at the Westwood venue.

The four-year-old has won only three times in 20 outings but as two of those wins have come over this track and trip, his claims are there for all to see.

However, one must look past the fact he has not won since last August, turning in a so-so string of efforts following a win at Beverley that prompted a seemingly insurmountable 5lb rise in the weights.

Marks in the low 80s were beyond him but Peterhouse has slid back down the ratings of late and now lines up here off a perch of 75, some 3lb lower than his last winning mark.

Recent signs of a revival with two placed runs are promising, not least his head defeat here over a mile and a half a furlong last week.

He finished strongly that day to suggest a step back up in trip will be to his advantage and despite shouldering top weight, Peterhouse can shine for trainer Jason Ward.

Ginzan struck gold last time out at Bath and can follow up in the Janes Solicitors Handicap at Brighton.

The eight-year-old is perhaps not one to have total faith in as she can throw in a bad effort here and there, but she is in excellent heart at present, as she showed when winning by a length and a quarter last time.

She scored over this course and distance last May on good ground so the track and likely going hold few fears for her.

Good Time Ahead was beaten by a better fancied stablemate on his racecourse bow but it would no surprise to see him make it second time lucky in the Osbaston Novice Stakes at Leicester.

Neither of Richard Fahey’s runners that day were particularly well fancied but they fought out a thrilling finish with Boundsy just emerging a short head to the good.

But Good Time Ahead holds some nice sales race entries later in the year and could be one on the up.
