MADNESS hit Doncaster last weekend for our sell-out raceday attended by more than 20,000 screaming fans.

After a great evening of racing on Friday, June 29, it was all hands on deck to make sure that Town Moor was prepared for racegoers young and old descending on the course for a raceday that will go down as one of the most popular events we’ve staged.

Our Construction Index live music racenight featuring legendary ska band Madness took place on Saturday evening and with the event having sold out days earlier, it really is proof (for the hundreds of fans who called and turned up on the day) that you do need to book early to make sure that you don’t miss out.

Racegoers were treated to a great show for starters with racing from 6:05pm. The opening race was claimed by favourite Azrur at 4/1, but for those who like to back an outsider, second placed French Press at 33/1 would have offered a tidy return each way. The only real surprise of the day was 12/1 Eastward Ho in the 8:15pm race, which beat Anderlego at 6/1 and Lockantanks at 3/1. The racing was fairly predictable, but nonetheless very entertaining.

But the changeable weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits, and we enjoyed some glorious late evening sunshine before Madness took to the stage at 9:30pm, shortly after the last race.

Fans partied the night away until the band closed the show just before 11pm – a great end to what was a fantastically entertaining evening – and one that I am sure will have showed many of our first-time visitors what a great day out we offer at Doncaster Racecourse.

We have a good line up of racing over the coming weeks ahead of our next big race meeting, the famous St Leger. The Ladbrokes St Leger Day just got even more interesting after last weekend’s announcement from Aidan O’Brien that he intends to enter Camelot in Saturday, September 15’s showcase, giving the horse the chance to join Nijinski in the record books as a winner of the coveted Triple Crown.

Before that though, our next raceday at Town Moor is tomorrow, with a great afternoon of racing on the cards.
