Last weekend saw some fantastic racing to go with the beautiful weather and nowhere were the rays more brilliant than at Longchamp.
A tremendous day’s racing just outside Paris on Sunday saw an unexpected result in the highly prized Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The result of the Arc confirmed that racing can fulfil even the wildest dreams, when the German trained Danedream won in stellar company at odds of 20-1.
This year’s renewal provided an extremely competitive field which included the globetrotting filly Snow Fairy, two of Ballydoyles big guns in St Nicholas Abbey and So You Think, the French trained favourite Sarafina, our own Workforce and last year’s Ladbrokes St Leger winner, Masked Marvel.
The BHA has completed its review of the whip in racing and as a result new guidelines will be in place later this month. There will be a reduction in the permitted frequency of use and tougher penalties for those that break the new rules. Leading jockeys Frankie Dettori and Tony McCoy and leading trainers Sir Henry Cecil and Paul Nichols have all spoken in support of the guidelines.
