Captain Dunne is still likely to go for the Qatar Prix de l’Abbaye, despite a disappointing run at Doncaster’s St Leger.

The six-year-old could only finish fifth behind Humidor in the Scarbrough Stakes, but connections feel a track like Longchamp plays more to his strengths. On his only previous visit to Paris in May, he was just caught on the line by Inxile after making nearly all the running.

“He ran a little bit below par at Doncaster, but the thing about him is the better the time over five furlongs, the better it is for him,” said Tim Palin, racing manager to owners Middleham Park Racing.
