Westbourne School’s Under-16s girls’ hockey team are Sheffield city champions after winning the Sheffield Federation of School Sports tournament.

And Westbourne players Olivia Burnham, Daina Ali and Sophie Brotherston were named girls of the tournament.

They and their fellow team members at the Broomhill independent school will now go on to represent Sheffield in the South Yorkshire round of the English Schools Hockey competition this month.

“There was superb defending from Daina and Sophie with Olivia making some excellent attacking moves,” said teacher and coach Wendy Hammond.

“The girls played with determination and, devoid of substitutes, kept pushing on through injury, beating Silverdale, Sheffield Girls High School and Tapton.”
