GREAT Britain hockey captain Barry Middleton says his team can win the gold medal.
Middleton leads his players into their first match of the tournament today against Argentina at the Riverbank Arena on the Olympic Park.
The Skellow, Doncaster, born Middleton said the team’s attacking style can achieve more than just being pleasing on the eye. “We’ve said that we have to try and play attacking to go and win it,” he said. “I don’t think you can just hang on and try and hope to win. That is a concious decision that we made.
“At the moment it is going ok. It has worked for us and it has got us to where we are, but we’ll see what happens.
“We’re coming in with a confidence that says we can win it. It doesn’t mean we’re saying ‘we are going to win’. We have a chance.”
